Pastwalk Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 22, 2026
Pastwalk is operated by Cirqular Frequencies, LLC ("Pastwalk," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Pastwalk mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@pastwalk.app.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
Pastwalk creates an anonymous account for you automatically the first time you open the app — no sign-up is required to start walking. This anonymous account is tied to your device, not to your real-world identity.
If you choose to "save your progress" by signing in with Apple or Google, we receive the identity information that provider shares with us (typically your name and email address, or a private relay address if you choose to hide your email). Signing in links your existing anonymous progress to that identity — it does not create a separate account or lose your history.
Health and fitness data
If you enable "Sync from Health," Pastwalk reads your walking and running distance from Apple Health (HealthKit) or Google Fit / Health Connect, depending on your device. Specifically:
- We read workout distance for logged walks and runs, and step count as a fallback when direct distance isn't available.
- Step count is converted to an estimated distance using your stride length (derived from the height you provide during setup) — we do not store your raw step-by-step or minute-by-minute activity data, only the resulting distance figure and the date it was last synced.
- This distance is added to the historical journey (or journeys) you've chosen to track. We do not use your health data for advertising, do not build advertising profiles from it, and do not sell it to data brokers or other third parties.
You control this entirely: syncing is a manual action you trigger, health permissions can be revoked at any time in your device's Settings, and using Pastwalk without ever connecting Health is fully supported (you can log walks manually instead).
Height
We ask for your height during setup solely to estimate your stride length, which is used to convert step counts into distance when your health app doesn't report distance directly. This is stored with your profile.
Location
Pastwalk does not track your real-time or background location. If you use the optional "custom route" builder, you may enter a start and end address (or use your current location, with your permission, as a shortcut) — this is sent to our mapping provider (Mapbox) to calculate a walking route and distance, and may be saved as part of the custom route you create. We do not otherwise collect or store your location.
Social and account data
If you use Pastwalk's optional friends and group-challenge features, we store the username you choose, your friend connections, and your progress on routes you're racing or comparing with friends. This information is visible to the friends you've connected with, consistent with how the feature works.
Subscription and purchase data
Subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, not by us directly — Pastwalk never sees your payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status across platforms; RevenueCat receives your purchase receipts and a device-generated identifier (your Supabase user ID) to keep your subscription status in sync.
Automatically collected information
Like most apps, we may receive basic technical information needed to keep the app running securely — for example, information used by our bot- and abuse-protection service (Cloudflare Turnstile) to distinguish real users from automated traffic during account creation.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Operate the app's core functionality — tracking your walking progress along the journeys you choose, unlocking waypoints, and showing your history.
- Provide the features you opt into — friends, leaderboards, group challenges, custom routes, and subscriptions.
- Maintain the security and integrity of the service (for example, preventing automated abuse of account creation).
- Communicate with you about your account when necessary (for example, a subscription receipt from Apple or Google).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your health data for advertising or marketing purposes.
3. How Information Is Shared
We share information only as needed to provide the app:
- Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider, which stores your profile, journeys, and account data.
- Apple and Google — for Sign in with Apple/Google, HealthKit/Google Fit/Health Connect data access, and App Store/Play Store purchases.
- RevenueCat — for subscription status management across platforms.
- Mapbox — for map rendering, route calculation, and address search (only when you use the custom route builder).
- Cloudflare — for bot/abuse protection during account creation.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not sell your data.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Pastwalk, our users, or others.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and its associated data at any time directly in the app, from Settings → Account → Delete Account — this permanently removes your profile, journeys, progress, and friend connections, whether or not you've ever signed in with Apple or Google. You can also request deletion by contacting privacy@pastwalk.app. If you reinstall the app or switch devices without ever having signed in, a new anonymous account is created and your prior progress is no longer reachable to delete on request, since it was never tied to a recoverable identity — signing in is what lets that history follow you (and be found on request) across devices.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- You can use most of Pastwalk without ever connecting Health data or creating a persistent identity.
- You can revoke Health/Google Fit permissions at any time in your device Settings.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at privacy@pastwalk.app.
- If you are located in a jurisdiction that grants additional rights (such as the EU/UK under GDPR or California under the CCPA), you may have additional rights to data portability or to object to certain processing — contact us and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
6. Children's Privacy
Pastwalk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@pastwalk.app and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections between the app and our backend, and row-level access controls on our database so that your data is only accessible to you (and, for the specific fields the friends feature exposes, to friends you've explicitly connected with).
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
